Unit Roles Guide

Understand every unit role in Anime Squadron from carry and boss DPS to support, control, economy, and tank with best units and traits for each.

Carry Units: The Backbone of Every Team

Carry units are the primary damage dealers that clear regular waves throughout a run. They have high area-of-effect damage, good attack speed, and enough range to cover significant portions of the lane. Every Anime Squadron team needs at least one carry, and your carry should always be the first unit deployed and upgraded.

A carry's job is simple: kill regular enemies before they reach your base. This creates space for your other units to focus on their specialized tasks. Without a strong carry, regular waves overwhelm your defenses, and you never reach the boss phase with enough resources to win.

Carry Trait Priority

Superior is mandatory on your carry. The +200% damage alone doubles your wave clear speed, and the +1 spawn cap lets you field an extra unit. Cloner is the only acceptable alternative, giving you two copies of your carry for massive wave coverage.

Carry Deployment Strategy

Your carry deploys first every run. Upgrade them to level 3 before placing any other unit. Then max them to level 5 before investing in secondary units. This ensures your wave clear is established before you split resources.

Boss DPS Units: Killing What Carries Cannot

Boss DPS units specialize in single-target damage. While carries excel at clearing groups of regular enemies, boss DPS units melt individual targets with massive HP pools. Every boss encounter in Anime Squadron demands at least one dedicated boss damage dealer.

The distinction between carry damage and boss DPS is important. Carry damage is spread across multiple targets, while boss DPS is concentrated on one target. A carry might deal 10,000 total damage per attack across five enemies, while a boss DPS unit deals 8,000 damage to a single target. Against a boss with 500,000 HP, the boss DPS unit is far more efficient.

Boss DPS Deployment Timing

Do not deploy your boss DPS unit at the start of a run. Wait until regular waves are under control and you have enough Yen to upgrade the boss DPS to at least level 2 immediately. Deploying a boss DPS too early wastes Yen that should go toward upgrading your carry first.

PhaseBoss DPS Action

Pre-boss waveDeploy and upgrade to level 2-3

Post-bossContinue attacking regular enemies

Control Units: Locking Down Threats

Control units disable or hinder enemies through stuns, slows, and other debuffs. They are especially valuable during boss phases and dense wave moments when your carry cannot kill enemies fast enough. A well-timed stun from Aizen can save an entire run.

Control units trade raw damage for utility. Aizen, the best control unit in the game, deals modest damage but can permanently stun enemies with reduced cooldown from the Superior trait. This crowd control is invaluable in Raids and Boss Rush where enemies hit extremely hard.

Control Unit Positioning

Control units must be positioned where their range covers the most lane length. Place them at corners or elevated positions where their abilities can reach enemies throughout a large area. A mispositioned control unit is nearly useless.

PositionCoverageRecommendation
Corner placementCovers two lane segmentsBest for most maps
Elevated mid-laneMaximum range coverageGreat for wide lanes
Near lane entranceCatches enemies earlyGood for slow abilities
Behind carrySafe but limited coverageOnly if front positions are dangerous

Support Units: Multiplying Team Power

Support units do not deal significant damage themselves. Instead, they buff your other units, heal damage, and provide utility that amplifies your entire squad's effectiveness. A good support unit makes every other unit on your team perform better.

Shanron is the premier support unit, offering team-wide buffs that increase damage output and survivability. Shinks provides similar but weaker buffs and serves as a budget alternative. Support units are essential for Infinite Mode and high-level Raids where every stat point matters.

Support Unit Synergy

Support units create the most value when positioned near your highest-damage units. Shanron's buff range is limited, so place her where she can reach your carry and boss DPS simultaneously.

Economy and Tank Units: Situational Specialists

Economy and tank units serve niche roles that become valuable in specific situations. They are not required for every team, but knowing when to use them gives you an edge in certain game modes.

Economy Units

Fastwagon is the only dedicated economy unit, generating extra Yen per wave with the Entrepreneur trait. He is extremely valuable in Infinite Mode where runs last 15+ minutes and the cumulative Yen bonus adds up to thousands of extra deployment currency.

Tank Units

Shield Hero absorbs damage that would otherwise kill your DPS units. He is situational but valuable in Raids and Boss Rush where enemies hit hard enough to one-shot squishy units. Place him in front of your carry and boss DPS to draw aggro.

Building Around Roles: Team Construction Framework

Every successful Anime Squadron team follows the same role framework. Start with your carry, add boss DPS, then fill in the remaining slots based on the game mode and your available units.

Role PriorityUnits NeededFlexibility
1. CarryExactly 1Gometa > Goki > Vegata
2. Boss DPS1-2Woo > Madora > Vegata
3. Control0-1Aizen > Puppeteer
4. Support0-1Shanron > Shinks
5. Economy or Tank0-1Mode-dependent

This framework ensures your team has the essential roles covered before adding situational specialists. A team without boss DPS will fail on boss waves, and a team without a carry will be overrun by regular enemies. Get the fundamentals right first, then optimize with niche picks.

FAQ

What is the most important unit role in Anime Squadron?

The carry role is the most important in Anime Squadron because wave clearing is the baseline requirement for every game mode. Without a carry, you cannot survive regular waves long enough to reach boss phases. The Anime Squadron unit roles guide recommends investing in your carry before any other role.

Do I need both a carry and a boss DPS unit?

Yes. Carry units clear regular waves but struggle against high-HP bosses. Boss DPS units melt bosses but are inefficient against groups. The Anime Squadron unit roles guide emphasizes that both roles are essential for consistent success across all content.

Is the control role really necessary?

Control becomes increasingly necessary at higher difficulty levels. In Story Acts 1-2, you can manage without it. In Raids Act 4, Boss Rush, and high-wave Infinite Mode, Aizen's stuns are nearly mandatory. The Anime Squadron unit roles guide recommends adding control to your team once you start struggling with dense enemy waves.

When should I use an economy unit like Fastwagon?

Fastwagon with the Entrepreneur trait is most valuable in Infinite Mode and long Story runs where the cumulative Yen bonus adds up significantly. For short Raids and Boss Rush, replace Fastwagon with a combat unit. The Anime Squadron unit roles guide treats economy as a mode-specific choice. Play on Roblox.
